Hope is not a dream but a way of making dreams become reality

June 18th, 2007 by Saba Issa

Walk for Iraq was first pioneered in the UK on the 16th of June 2007.In the meantime, small groups of Iraqi youths are buzzing around organizing similar “walks” world wide. The energy, faith, loyalty and patriotism that every “update” email conveys seems to, little by little, warm the cold patches that had started to frost in the hearts of every one of us, when each thought that the world no longer care..

And although the driver behind the idea was to collect donations for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to be used in the most needed life saving projects around Iraq, it is hard not to be overwhelmed by humanity’s undying ability to hang on to hope, even when everything seizes to make any sense at all.

This might seem like a small step of possibly negligible effects, but if one life is saved by our efforts.. if one child’s painful night is soothed.. then it would have been all worth while doing a hundred times more..

As for us.. we’re not only doing this for our people.. we’re doing it for our country..our homeland.. to show the world that we have not forgotten where we come from..and that we will always care.. we’re doing this for all the years when we did not have the freedom or free will to carry our hearts out on our hands and say exactly how we really feel.. and most of all.. for those who have still never gotten the chance to do so..Because regardless of what had happened and what..sadly..continues to happen..there will always be Iraqies that want peace above all..and Iraq above all..whether or not they will ever be heard.. whether or not their dreams will ever come true..sometimes..this becomes trivial..when merely carrying the torch and believing in the dream becomes the achievement.
